CSC says Symcor has licensed a version of CheckVision that runs on IBM's eServer pSeries hardware and DB2 UDB software, and will use the system to store and process bank statements, reports and cheque images that its clients can then deliver to their customers via print, CD-ROM or the Internet.

The system will help Symcor comply with a national initiative led by the Canadian Payments Association (CPA) - similar to the Check 21 legislation in the US - which supports the adoption of a cheque-clearing process based on digital images rather than traditional paper cheques.

The CPA estimates that Canadian financial institutions will begin to accept cheque images starting in January 2007.

Wayne Martin, Symcor senior vice president of technology services, says: "Working with CSC will help us expand our leadership in image cheque processing as we seek to aggressively expand our outsourcing business in Canada and the United States."
