“Novo recently reached an inflection point of processing more than $1 billion in transactions for small businesses, and is hiring across all departments as the company enters its next phase of growth,” said Michael Rangel, co-founder and CEO of Novo. “The banking, marketing, and people leaders we’re announcing today have demonstrated success leading high-performing teams through significant organizational expansion. We couldn’t be happier to have them join Novo.”

Novo’s new hires include:

• Newton Gomez, Director, Banking: Gomez brings to Novo more than 15 years of experience in the banking industry. Previously, Newton served as VP of strategy and innovation for Cross River Bank, where he led the company’s ACH, wire, online banking, credit card, and lending marketplace departments. As Novo’s director of banking, he will lead operations, systems, and strategy for the company’s banking department.
• Jamie Koopersmith, Director, People: Prior to joining Novo, Koopersmith served as manager of people operations for Cityblock Health, where she optimized and maintained processes throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, and internal mobility. Previously, she served as an HR generalist for VTS, Inc., and head of people for Homepolish. In her role as director of people for Novo, Koopersmith will oversee all aspects of HR and employee relations across Novo’s offices in Miami, New York, and India.
• Chris Slowik, Director, Performance Marketing: As the first marketing hire after BBVA’s acquisition of Simple, Slowik quickly scaled the neobank’s customer acquisition efforts, and helped grow the marketing organization from five to 30 people. Slowik then joined Azlo to apply learnings from retail banking to business banking. In his role as Novo’s director of performance marketing, Slowik will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Novo’s marketing activities.

Novo’s new directors are joining the company during a period of rapid growth. In Q1 2021, more than 40,000 small business customers signed up for Novo, and the digital banking platform processed more than $600M in transactions during this three-month period.
