Gajda has taken up a new position as global head of strategic partnerships, managing Visa's relationships with network operators, device manufacturers and platform providers, says the firm in a blog post.

The post was published in response to what Visa calls an "inaccurate" press report that Gajda had been dismissed. The man himself has also tweeted confirmation:

However, NFC Times, the publication behind the initial report has updated its story, quoting a source suggesting that Gajda's new role could be a way to phase him out.

In his new position, Gajda will report to Jim McCarthy who has switched his job title from global head of product to global head of innovation and strategic partnerships.

Meanwhile, Sam Shrauger the PayPal veteran who joined Visa late last year as head of commercialisation will now become head of digital for developed markets, where he will oversee the V.me digital wallet programme.

Contrary to the NFC Times report, Visa says that Shrauger is not reporting directly to president Ryan McInerney but to Elizabeth Buse, who has recently been named global executive, solutions, a new global group "created to bring together product and client functions from across the company".
