Private equity-backed SunGard is planning to raise its headcount in India to 2000 by early 2009, as it injects more resources into its substantial R&D and sales support operations on the sub-continent.

"We currently have up to 1,300 professionals in Pune and about 400 in our Bangalore facility. We expect our headcount to go up to 2,000 in the next six months," Mack Gill, president of SunGard Technology Services, told local business daily Business Line.

The company is also planning to consolidate its Pune operations - currently spread over six locations in the city - into one integrated facility by mid-2009.

The growth in headcount will also coincide with the release of new products aimed at capturing more financial services business on Indian soil.
