Criminals have hacked the Web site of UK retailer Cotton Traders and stolen the credit card details and addresses of thousands of customers.

Cotton Traders, which discovered the attack in January, reported the incident to Barclaycard and most cards were stopped.

The retailer says all customer credit card data is encrypted on its Web site.

The BBC has reported that up to 38,000 customers are affected by the breach, but the retailer dismisses the figure as "widely inaccurate". However Cotton Traders has not disclosed howm many customers are affected by the incident.

Cotton Traders says it has recently upgraded all security on its Web site "which has been validated by leading Industry experts".
