The new office, which is situated just a few hundred metres away from the Paris Stock Exchange, is headed by Gilles Monat who is responsible for driving sales in the French-speaking countries.

Commenting on the opening of the French office, Artur Fischer, chairman of Börse Berlin, says the German firm must not present itself to the foreign markets exclusively as a company from Berlin.

"Operating a local office and having experts of the local marketplace working for us greatly enhances our credibility as a provider of trading services," says Fischer.

Börse Berlin recruited Monat in January. At the same time the exchange operator hired Jonathan Woodward to drive Equiduct Trading sales in "English-speaking" markets.

Last week the exchange said it has appointed marketing expert Vera Donner-Sander to develop Equiduct Trading's central marketing department.

Donner-Sander has a brief to coordinate European marketing activities between Berlin, London and Paris and to position the brand throughout Europe as a provider of MiFID compliant trading services.

Börse Berlin - formerly known as the Berlin Stock Exchange - acquired an undisclosed majority stake in Equiduct in September 2007.
